My students tend to do very well in all-state auditions, select bands, solo and ensemble festivals, and summer music camps. Many of my students end up majoring in Music Education, Performance, Music Theory, Music Therapy, Arts Administration, Music History, etc. All have been offered sizable scholarships at major universities.
While some of my students do not major in music, the study of music has been shown repeatedly to strengthen all areas of a student's development. Many of those students land marching band scholarships or academic scholarships to college. They either participate in music for a minor or simply continue to play in college bands while pursuing other careers. Some former students are nurses, doctors, engineers, java programmers, architects, MBA's, graphic artists, teachers, counselors, hospital administrators, etc.
See research on the National Association of Music Education website regarding how intensive music study benefits young minds.
